Shiso Herb Seeds (Perilla) - Korean. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Perilla frutescens var. frutescens. AKA beefsteak leaf, beefsteak plant, dulketip, gee so, jiso, kkaennip, kkaennip namul, oba, purple mint, shiso, tia to, tulkkae, zi su. 70 days. Warm season annual. This large leaf perilla is a Korean specialty. The leaves are two-toned-- bright green on top and light purple underneath. They have a unique flavor that tastes somewhere between mint and basil and are often used as a wrap for sushi and cooked food. Excellent as a microgreen for salads/garnish. Plants grow vigorously and show best color in warm temperatures. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow by broadcasting seeds in late spring/summer after last frost, in a warm, sunny location. Also know as Chinese okra, this vigorous productive plant produces a high yield of edible fruit on strong, lateral branches. Fruit are 18 long, 2" in diameter and weigh just under a pound. The green-colored, ridged fruit is tender and tasty and matures 45 days after the flower sets. Requires a long, warm growing season. Prepare fertile, well drained soil. Sow seeds in spring/early summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. The seed coat is hard and should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours or gently clip the seed tip to help the seed germinate. Hill planting: Form soil into a 1-ft. diameter mound 3-4' tall. Eggplant Seeds - Konasu. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Solanum melongena. 60 days. Warm season annual. This tiny, bite-sized, rounded eggplant has shiny dark purple skin that looks almost onyx in color. The calyx is also a purplish-black, and beneath the tender skin is white flesh. Start seeds inside 6 weeks before last frost date (or 8 weeks before expected transplanting date). Keep soil warm until emergence (80-90?F minimum). Seeds will not germinate in cool soil and planting out too early may affect plant vigor. Harden off plants carefully before transplanting. Brassica rapa Narinosa Group. Non-GMO. Red Tatsoi makes a lovely microgreen as well as a terrific full size cool season asian green. As a microgreen the cotyledons open green and change to a reddish purple on about day 4. It germinates quickly and is ready for harvest in 7 - 10 days. For the best color give cool temperatures.
