Warm season annual. Adaptable to many growing and soil conditions, this plant consistently produces 4-5 lb. high quality, flat, globe-shaped fruit with dark green rinds. Its thick and dry yellow flesh has a very sweet nutty flavor that makes it one of the most popular ebisu varieties grown in Japan. Grows well in cool areas and stores well. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in spring/summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Hill planting: Form soil into a 1-ft. diameter mound 3-4 tall. Space mounds 5-10' apart. The vine can be trained to climb a vertical support for better air circulation and ease of harvest or left to sprawl on the ground. Cabbage Seeds - Pak Choi - Savory Tatsoi. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Annual. Brassica rapa var. narinosa. 10-15 days microgreens; 20-30 days baby leaf;45 days full maturity. Cool-warm season. The dark green, heavily savoyed leaves grow atop thick bunches of pale green petioles giving it a spinach-like appearance. In summer, the plant reaches nearly a foot in height. In winter, it grows in a rosette close to the ground. As with Tatsoi, individual leaves can be picked continuously for several weeks. Heat and cold tolerant. Excellent for microgreens and baby leaf production. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in spring after last frost to early summer or late summer/early fall. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Optimum growing temperatures are in the 60s?F. Exposure to frost or prolonged temperatures below 50?F may result in bolting. Mulch fall crops to avoid premature bolting. Harvest young baby leaves for salad mix or harvest the whole plant when fully mature at 10-12 tall. For microgreens, sow seeds in spring to summer in sandy soil in a bright but cool location.
