Mini Hybrid Bitter Gourd. Momordica charantia. Non-GMO, Hybrid. 50 to 60 days to maturity. Annual. Bitter Gourd is also known as Bitter Melon, Karella, and Balsam Pear. This small bitter melon is common in Thailand and India. It is an early producer and is notable for its disease resistance. The skin of these uniform 3-4 fruits is dark green and covered with pointy warts. It does best in a warm climate with some humidity. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. In warm areas, sow seeds in late spring/early summer after the last frost in a warm, sunny location. Low soil temperatures may result in low or no germination. For better germination, pre-sprout seeds indoors by soaking in water for 24 hours. Wrap in a wet paper towel and keep warm between 75-85?F. Plant when seeds sprout. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Train to climb a vertical support for better air circulation and ease of harvest. Bitter melons are excellent in soups and tasty addition to stir-fries. Try them stuffed with pork, seafood, or cooked with fermented black beans. Recommended as a healthy food by the American Diabetic Association. ~140 seeds per ounce."
