Soybean - Tohya. Heirloom, Glycine max. 70 days. Warm season annual. This is a non-GMO, open pollinated, early maturity soybean variety. Pods are light green with white pubescence, large pods with 3 seeds. Plants are under 2 feet tall. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring/early summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Seeds will rot or fail to germinate if overwatered or soaked. Keep soil moist but not soaked during the germinating period. Fertilize as needed. Warm day temperatures (75-85?F) and cool night temperatures are important for best results. Harvest when soybeans swell in pod. Prepare edamame, a traditional Japanese treat, by boiling fresh pods for 3-4 minutes in salted water and serve them as a healthy appetizer and snack. Soybeans are rich in protein. Approx 175 seeds / oz.
