Eggplant Seeds - Mizuno Takumi - Hybrid.Solanum melongena. 80 days. NonGMO. Warm season annual. This shiny, purplish-black oval-shaped eggplant grows to a plump 1/2 pound. Known for its watery flesh and tender skin, it is most often enjoyed cooked or pickled. The plants are heavy producers in open field or greenhouse alike. Start seeds inside 6 weeks before last frost date (or 8 weeks before expected transplanting date). Keep soil warm until emergence (80-90?F minimum). Seeds will not germinate in cool soil and planting out too early may affect plant vigor. Harden off plants carefully before transplanting. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Transplant in late spring/ summer (soil temperatures at least above 75?F) in a very warm and sunny location. Eggplants are heavy feeders so use a balanced fertilizer. Too much nitrogen will produce lush foliage and few fruit. Gourmet cooking shows have made this juicy variety popular in restaurants and bars throughout Japan, where the eggplants are lightly pickled and eaten as a summer side dish or as a snack with beer. Approx 6188 seeds /oz.
